Lucky Jack Nitro Cold Brew Coffee Old School Review
I got this new Lucky Jack at the local Sprouts. Looking at their website it was started by Richard Karno in 2013. He had previously been the largest organic coffee roaster in LA before starting Lucky Jack. This brand is the first nitrogenated cold brew available in bottles. (I guess that is true, I have had cans I have had aluminum bottles, but this is the first glass bottle nitro I have had). They like almost everyone in the cold brew sector uses 100% organic Arabica beans. There is no info on their site about how they brew the coffee except that it is hand crafted in small batches.
First off before I get to the taste, this is the third one of these bottles I have opened and this one exploded everywhere because the cap was so hard to pull off. Thankfully the coffee has a great chocolate smell almost like a light milk chocolate. You can hear the nitro bubbles popping in this but not as violently as the Califia Nitro Cold Brew. There is a really good head on this nitro coffee. The first flavor you get when you drink the coffee is this sweet water flavor. The sweetness is very clean because of the natural cane sugar that they put in. As the coffee goes into the second part of the tongue you get the same sweetness flavor but there is some coffee flavor coming out but very slight. As you get to the very end the sweetness dissipates and you get the very mild coffee flavor. The coffee flavor seems like it is blocked by the sweetness that has taken over the tongue. There is a very light body that goes away the moment you finish drinking it. The price per bottle is $3.99 per 10.5 oz. That is $0.38 per oz.
This is the 3rd Lucky Jack Cold Brew Coffee that I have tried. This was the most disappointing of the 3 so far. I understand that they put the cane sugar in there and it is organic, however, the sugar is so overpowering and covers the coffee flavor. It is so light it is almost non existent. I would recommend this if you like drinking sugar water with a hint of coffee flavor, otherwise I wouldn’t drink this again.
