Kohana Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate: French Vanilla Review
The beginnings of this company start on the island of Oahu. Where the Victoria Lynden found a coffee shop that would change her life. She fell in love in with that cup of coffee. When she went back to her home in Austin she tried to and finally perfected the same roasting and brewing that that coffee shop brewed for her. Kohana is the name of the flower that blooms before the coffee berry comes out. They use only organic coffee beans and make sure that all the coffee they buy are from farms that are fair trade. Kohana Coffee roasts single origin, blended, flavored, and decaffeinated coffees. Their Single origin offerings are Organic/Fair Trade Honduran Las Capucas, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Misty Valley, Kohana Panama Boquete, Brazil Santa Rita and Antigua Bella Carmona.
I mixed the proposed combo of 2 parts water with 1 part coffee. After mixing the two together you get this very mild coffee smell mixed in with just a hint of vanilla. When you first drink it you get a bit of that fruity acidity. There are also underlying tones of the Vanilla in it as well. Then as it rolls to the second stage of the mouth you get the berry flavor leveling off and then you have more of the vanilla flavor coming in. (I have finally realized what that flavor is in all those Korean cold brews I had before that I couldn’t put my finger on, it was vanilla undertones.) When it hits the final stage of your mouth you get this explosion of coffee flavor with a hint of the vanilla just hanging at the bottom of the coffee flavor. It is strong without it being overbearing. The body is slightly above average lasting minutes in your mouth. Also, like the last Kohana, I tried this coffee’s caffeine content is strong. The price is $7.5 for a 16 oz bottle which is $0.47 per ounce. This bottle makes 7 cups of coffee.
Kohana has done it again with their second cold brew I have tried. If you have been following me you can tell I just do not like vanilla flavored cold brew coffees. However, Kohana has done it in such a way where it isn’t overbearing and it is just hints of the vanilla. It doesn’t take anything from the actual coffee flavor it only enhances it. The coffee is smooth and slightly sweet from the fruity taste of the coffee bean. On top of that, the caffeine content on this must be insane, just half a cup and I can already feel the effects. If you are looking for something easy to drink and high on caffeine this is the coffee for you.
