Dunkin’ Dounts Cold Brew Coffee Review
Time for Dunkin’ Donuts to step up to the plate in the Cold Brew Coffee game. I don’t think I need to go into much details about Dunkin’ Donuts as a company. I heard about it from a friend recently and so I decided to try it. Again it was the same as Starbucks they had a tub of it ready and just poured it into a cup of ice. According to their website it is “an ultra-smooth, full bodied brew like no other. It’s a rich flavorful, easy to drink coffee.” It is brewed with Arabica Coffee, no word on if its Fair Trade or Organic. Again like Starbucks the cold brew coffee itself has very details about it on the website.
The fragrance coming from the cup was a very average as far as strength but it had a very nice scent to it. The first sip comes with some acidity more than usual as it first hits your tongue. Then comes the bitter taste and boy was it strong. There was a large amount of bitterness as this rolled to the back of your mouth, which is very disappointing which is what cold brew is supposed to curb, among other things. There really to me is no separation between drinking regular coffee and cold brew if it is going to be this bitter. As the bitterness went away you could get the bold roast flavor coming through. Although the flavor was not as strong as you would expect it to be, give how bitter the drink is. The flavor lasted in your mouth a little longer than the average cold brew, meaning it was an slightly above average body. It is in your mouth just strong enough where you can get hints of the roast as it wafts up to your nose. The coffee cost $2.99 for 16 oz, however, there was ice in it so I am assuming about half that volume was ice and go with 8 oz. So the cost is $0.37 per ounce, which is slightly above the mean price of cold brews I have had so far.
If there is one word to describe the Dunkin Donuts Cold Brew Coffee, is that it is average, except for the bitterness. Yes the Chameleon Espresso Cold Brew was also very bitter, but that drink had an equally as strong coffee flavor with the bitterness. This has an unproportional amount of bitterness in relation to how much coffee flavor that was in the drink. I guess you shouldn’t expect that much from big corporations because that is 0/2 right now with Starbucks and Dunkin’.
