Chameleon Cold Brew: Mocha Coffee Flavor Concentrate Review

Chameleon Cold Brew: Mocha Coffee Flavor Concentrate Review

About Company

Chameleon is the most famous brand in the cold brew coffee game at the moment down here in Texas. Although cold brew isn’t a household name yet, ask people who know about cold brew they know the brand Chameleon. They make multiple flavors which we will be reviewing all of them eventually. The one I am reviewing today is their Chicory Coffee Flavor. According to their website the company was founded in 2010 in Austin, Texas. They use 100% organic Arabica beans and Hill Country Water to produce their drink. The beans are procured using fair trade. They actually roast their own beans in house. Chameleon actually uses something called air roasting, which apparently brings out the maximum flavor of the beans but keeping them not bitter. On top of that they only roast in small batches which gives them more control of the bean. They steep the coffee for 16 hours and during that 16 hours, they are actually agitated constantly. This helps get more flavor out as during the cold brew process the grinds actually settle. When it settles it is harder to pull flavor out as it is compact. This is where the agitation comes in to keep them constantly afloat.

Tasting
The smell of the coffee when you pour out the coffee you get a very slight coffee smell with a sweet cocoa flavor layered on top. When you first take a drink from the cold brew in you get this bitter taste at the beginning. The bitterness comes from the cocoa powder in the drink. Then as it goes to the next part of the mouth you get some of the acidity from the coffee. It isn’t very strong or overpowering. The bitterness from the cocoa powder makes the acidity more sour than it really is. At the very end, you get the coffee layered with the cocoa. You get that coffee taste that comes out first and the cocoa becomes more prominent. Then after the two flavors combine in your mouth you get them combined together to give a great harmonious taste in your mouth. The body is above average with the cocoa doing the heavy lifting taking the combined taste of it and the coffee around your mouth for a long period of time. The price of a bottle of this coffee is $9.49 for 32 ounces which is $0.30 per oz and makes 8 cups of coffee.
Summary
Chameleon Cold Brew Coffee has done it again and has made a cold brew where the flavor complements the coffee and doesn’t mask or hide it. You can tell that they put thought into the cold brew and didn’t just dump chocolate syrup into it and call it a day. They actually put in real cocoa powder to enhance the taste of the cold brew. That being said it isn’t for everyone, most people looking at the label might think it is going to be sweet. It isn’t except that slight natural sweetness of the coffee and cocoa. The bitterness from the cocoa might also turn off some people, but if you are looking for a mocha cold brew done right, this is it!
