Califia Farms: Peppermint Mocha Cold Brew Coffee Review
Califia Farms are best known for making drinks that are totally plant based. They are based out of California, however, I see them a lot in stores in Texas. Their portfolio ranges from juices to coffee. All their coffee is grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. Which means their farmers are paid a living wage and are all in good living conditions. There isn’t much else about the cold brew that they brew, except that it says that it is brewed in a few hours, which seems a lot less than the other brands.
When you’re pouring this drink out into the cup you get a nice mint chocolate chip smell. This drink is thick it is like drinking melted ice cream. At the beginning, you get a nice chocolate milk taste with a hint of the mint. Then as it goes to the middle of the mouth you get more of the mint flavor coming out of it. Then as it finally gets to the back of your mouth that is where the mint kicks it into overdrive. It is actually interesting because you can feel the mint flavor pull away from the chocolate flavor. The chocolate flavor flows down while the mint actually goes up to the top of the mouth. The coffee also leaves this grainy residue in your mouth, which is part of the almond milk where the almonds didn’t get filtered out. There is just one problem there is no coffee flavor at all. There is no difference between this and peppermint chocolate milk. The body is actually quite robust but it really isn’t the coffee that is robust it is really the mint flavor that lingers in your mouth. Also, your mouth feels chalky after drinking this. The price is $5.49 for a 48 oz bottle which is $0.12 per ounce
Again Califia disappoints me again. You would think I would learn my lesson at this point. If you are looking for coffee look elsewhere unless you are looking for a vegan option of mint chocolate coffee. The mint chocolate tastes good other than leaving a chalky taste and being gritty. To be honest I don’t even know if there is even coffee in this drink. I am even more tired after drinking it than I was before drinking it.
