Califia Farms: Black & White Cold Brew Coffee Review
Califia Farms are best known for making drinks that are totally plant based. They are based out of California however I see them a lot in stores in Texas. Their portfolio ranges from juices to coffee. All their coffee is grown on Rainforest Alliance Certfied farms. Which means their farmers are paid a living wage and are all in good living conditions. There isn’t much else about the cold brew that they brew, except that it says that it is brewed in a few hours, which seems a lot less than the other brands.
The smell when first opening the bottle is a nice mild milky coffee smell. When you first taste the coffee it has a very milky taste, but with a little bit of underlying saltiness. There is no acidity in the drink which is masked by the salt. As it goes further back into the throat it gets more and more salty. It has become a savory drink. There is a very light coffee flavor which is masked by the salt. It is sea salt which is even more salty. As time goes past some of the salt flavor wears off and you can taste more of the coffee, but again it is still very light. It has a very shallow body again the salt takes over everything. The price of this drink is $2.99 for 10.5 ounces, which is $0.29 per ounce.
Califia Farms swings again and misses. I understand them trying to be organic and not using soy or dairy, but why do they insist on putting sea salt in all their drinks. I don’t think anyone enjoys drinking salty coffee. I surely don’t. The salt is just way to powerful and masks the natural coffee taste. I wouldn’t recommend this at all unless you are looking for savory coffee, which I doubt anyone is.
