Califia All Black Coffee: Signature Blend Review
Califia Farms are best known for making drinks that are totally plant based. They are based out of California however. Their portfolio ranges from juices to coffee. They use direct trade- sourced coffee beans from Colombia, Guatemala, and El Salvador which are used in this particular cold brew. They use lighter roasting in this cold brew as well to lend to more subtle aromatics as well as more depth and complexity. This particular cold brew is from their new All Black Coffee line of cold brew coffees. All their other cold brews thus far had their Almondmilk in it, this would be there first outing without it, so it will be interesting how their base coffee tastes. This one is their Signature Blend of Colombia and Central American beans.
A nice strong coffee flavor after cracking open the bottle with subtle notes of sweetness coming out as well. After the first sip you get a wave of sourness that washes over the front of your tongue. It is a lot more acidic than most cold brews I have had thus far. Then as it goes into the second part of the mouth you get the acidity flavor developing into more of a sweet berry flavor. Then as it goes to the final stretch of the tongue it develops its true sweetness and then there is also some coffee flavor behind it. The coffee flavor that is in there is very weak and gets over powered by the sweet berry flavor. The body is actually quite robust lasting for quite a while in your mouth after you drink it. I even tried drinking water to clean my palette after every sip but the coffee flavor stood strong. The caffeine content in this bottle is 190 MG, which is on par with a 12 oz cup of Starbucks. The price is $4.49 for a 10.5 oz bottle which is $0.43 per ounce
Glad to see Califia finally came out with a coffee that is unadulterated with their All Black Coffee line. I can finally taste their coffee for what it is without the Almondmilk mixed in. After drinking this cold brew I understand why every one of their cold brews are so light in coffee flavor. This cold brew had about an equal mix of sweet berry flavor as well as coffee flavor, but the berry flavor edges out the coffee flavor slightly. The drink is complex like the claim having different layers however to me one of the layers was stronger than it needed to be. I personally would like to taste more of the coffee flavor. It is very smooth and easy to drink that any level of coffee drinker should try. Only real negative about it is that it is rather expensive.
