Brave Roasters: Sukhumvit Cold Brew Coffee Review
While I was on my trip to Thailand, I did a quick Google search for one of the top places to get cold brew in Bangkok. The I+d Style Cafe X Brave Roasters was the search result that showed up and was also the closest to where I was. Brave Roasters partnered with I+d Style Cafe to open up a small cafe in the mall. They are in the Siam Discovery Mall, which is already cool by itself. The mall is set up like Ikea but instead of Ikea where there is only one company each company operates in weirdly defined spaces. It has the feeling of walking into someone’s house except that things are on sale. It is a really cool experience to check out. I chatted with the guys at Brave Roasters for a little bit, they have 3 flavors of cold brew currently: The Origins, Nostalgia, and Sukhumvit. They said that all their coffee beans were grown and harvested in Thailand. Each bottle has a label that tells you what region it comes from. They also roast their own beans in house. Hence the name Brave Roasters. This time I am reviewing Sukhumvit.
When you open the bottle there is a strong cinnamon smell that comes out. There is also a slight raisin smell as well. It really reminds me of cinnamon raisin bread. There is a slight acidity taste as it first hits your tongue. It also tastes like lemongrass and cinnamon at the very beginning as well. Then as it gets to the middle of the mouth the acidity slips away and you get a more savory flavor. The cinnamon flavor is still carried along the middle portion as well. As it gets to the very end you get a nice light roasted coffee flavor. The cinnamon is again along for the ride. The cinnamon flavor flows throughout the drink and really doesn’t compliment the coffee but overpowers it somewhat. The body of the coffee is just a slight bit under the average. The price per bottle is $3.72 per 6 oz. That is $0.62 per oz.
This Sukhumvit Cold Brew Coffee has a great fragrance when bringing your face close to it. Even with the bottle open here I can smell it like 2 feet away from me. The taste, however, is a bit different. I can give them points for using different ingredients and the coffee taste at the end is very good. I just think that the cinnamon played a bit too much of a role in the overall makeup of the drink. If it had just been left alone I think it would be up near my top of cold brews. If you are ever in Bangkok and want to try something unique you should check them out!
