Blue Island Cold-Filled Nitro Cold Brew Coffee: Island Bushwacker Review
Blue Island Coffee is a company derives its tastes and flavors from the Caribbean. They use sustainable sourcing and use organic and direct trade coffee. They also use small batch roasting. Adding to the claim of being organic they say that there are zero pesticides used in the farming of their coffee beans. They also are dedicated to giving back to causes that support clean environments, clean oceans, and clean beaches. They make 4 different distinct lines. They have their coffee beans in various forms, coffeebucha which is a mix of coffee and kombucha, nitro cold brew coffee, and also cold brew coffee pouches. There really isn’t much info about how they brew their cold brew except that they use cold water.
The fragrance from the bottle as soon as you open it is this sweet hazelnut smell which comes from the amaretto, Irish Creme, and French Vanilla that they put in. There is really no nitro hiss or bubbles when you open it. The first sip into your mouth gets you this sweet water taste at the very front. It is however not a very clean sweet water taste there is a slight cream taste as well. There is no sourness in the drink at all. Then in the second part of the mouth, the sweetness goes away and it falls flat. There is literally no flavor at all. Then as it goes towards the back of the mouth it starts slowly increasing in the sweetness again and in the end, you get the Irish Cream taste and some of the French Vanilla. The only thing that is missing in this cold brew coffee is the coffee. There is no coffee flavor at all in this, even though it is the top ingredient on the list. There is not really a body to speak of because of the lack of a coffee flavor. There is however quite a bit of caffeine in this bottle at 300 mg. The price is $3.99 for a 12 oz bottle which is $0.34 per ounce.
This is the first time trying any of Blue Islands cold brews. I have to say I am rather disappointed in this Island Bushwacker flavor. The nitro really played no factor in the coffee because you can’t even tell it is there. The most important point is that there is no coffee flavor. It could have been labeled an energy drink as there is nothing that makes this a cold brew coffee as far as tastes go. As far as tastes go I think that there were too many things going on at once. I would not get this again.
